OVERVIEW
European Youth Week is a pan-European programme with hundreds of events going on across 33 European countries, within and beyond the EU. Nevertheless, Brussels remains the beating heart and a focal point of its political dialogue.
It is here in the Belgian capital, the de facto capital of the European Union, that 140 young people and national officials will help mould Europe’s future during EYW by engaging in a central series of workshops and open forums with EU policy-makers.
These discussions during EYW focus on the most important platform for young Europeans to get involved with policy-making, the Structured Dialogue.
Of particular note is the subject of youth unemployment – a major issue on the EU’s radar and one which the dialogue at EYW will eagerly address.
The youth representatives heading to Brussels are chosen from national-level bodies called National Working Groups, which are tasked with performing consultations in their home countries before bringing representatives to the international debates.
Joining those 140 delegates will be 35 young journalists from the 33 countries involved in the European Commission’s Youth in Action programme.
They will be reporting on EYW from their countries and at the central events in Belgium – watch out for their stories here and check out what’s happening in your country.
As part of the EU-China Year of Youth, over 100 Chinese youth representatives will also be joining their European counterparts for summits in Brussels on 19 May. Click here for more info.
